PREAMBLE 

Boston College High School is a Catholic, Jesuit, independent school serving approximately 1400 young men across grades 7-12 from various communities across Massachusetts. Founded in 1863, Boston College High School continues its commitment to an authentic formation of the head, heart, and hands within the parameters of the Characteristics of Jesuit Education, the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm, the BC High Mission Statement, and the strategic plan.  


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

We seek to fill a temporary English teaching position to cover a leave of absence for the period of December 1st, 2025  through January 26th, 2026 or later. This role entails teaching five sections of high school English across at least two different grade levels/courses: a prepared curriculum for three sections of tenth-grade English II and two sections of eleventh-grade English III. In addition to classroom English instruction, this teacher will also need to fulfill various student mentoring and prefecting roles throughout the school.  


Requirements

SELECTION CRITERIA 

  • A passion for literature and teaching English to high school students of different abilities and backgrounds 
  • A bachelor’s degree in English (a master’s degree in English, Education, or other relevant field preferred, but not required) 
  • Previous experience teaching English at the high school level (preferred, but not required) 
  • A strong foundation in and knowledge of literature, language, and the craft of writing 
  • A willingness and enthusiasm to work in a collaborative department and also reflect on and develop one’s own pedagogy 
  • A commitment to working within and supporting both BC High’s Jesuit identity and its justice and belonging practices
