Safety Systems Engineer Application Deadline: 16 January 2026 Department: Operations Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time Location: EP South Humber Bank Power Station Reporting To: Operations Manager Description An exciting opportunity has become available for a Safety Systems Engineer at EP South Humber Bank Ltd on a full-time, permanent basis. This role is central to providing effective and adaptable support to ensure the station meets all requirements for achieving safety from the system during routine, non-routine, and outage activities. The successful candidate will hold direct responsibility for ensuring safety from the system throughout all maintenance and outage operations. They will also carry out activities that help the business unit maintain full compliance with EPUKI safety rules. The successful candidate will work as part of small teams under the guidance of colleagues within the Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance departments, while also being entrusted with managing individual projects and work packages. This includes taking responsibility for identifying and implementing appropriate technical solutions. The role involves developing effective working relationships at multiple levels with both internal and external stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Reporting to the Operations Manager, the key duties and responsibilities include: This role will be required to provide a consistent approach to safety assessing, permit preparation and safety rules related activities, the role will also provide flexible and effective support to all sections of the Operational, Engineering and Maintenance departments. Responsible for administration of the Permit to Work System and acts in the capacity of Senior Authorised Person for permits and other safety documents, ensuring compliance with the Safe system of Work. Ensures that the permit office functions cost effectively and reliably during day-to-day activities and during major outages ensuring staffing levels are maintained in and out of office hours. Utilises Operations staff to carry out activities to prepare for and execute permit office related duties. Responsible for ensuring effective liaison and communication with the Operations, Maintenance & Outage teams. Provides safety from the system and initiates audit corrective actions such that no accidents, injuries or high potential near misses occur. Adopts a lead role for liaising with the maintenance department for weekly maintenance & outage planning. Supports the safe execution of major projects & overhaul activities. Ensures delivery of work orders are received in a timely manner to enable day to day and outage preparation can be executed analytically. Correlates information and provides effective feedback to the outage review group. Implement and review the site safety requirements and procedures specifically concerned with work execution Safety Rules and ensure they are communicated, understood and applied by the station team in order to safeguard the team and minimise financial loss. Responsible for ensuring that all site staff training and nominations of are up to date, ensure the business unit is compliant with all safety rules related BMS procedures. Responsible for providing support to personnel on & off site in relation to the Instinct training system. Assists the Operations Manager in maintaining the NiSoft Eclipse permit to work system and acting as the site lead for the EPUKI safety rules and Eclipse working groups. Assist the Day Operations Co-ordinator to review all site-based safety rules related incidents & near misses. Prioritises and allocates time/resources to investigate, compile reports and ensures actions entered into the action tracker system and are tracked to completion. Oversees the sites P&ID’s and plant labelling, liaises with the Shift Engineers/Team Leaders to ensure these are maintained to an acceptable level and reviewed regularly. Conducts permit & procedure audits to ensure compliance with company policy and procedures. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Background Experience within the power generation industry, or industry with transferrable skills - essential. Comprehensive knowledge of the Eclipse permit to work system - essential. Demonstrable competence in the use of SAP and the MAP process - essential. Previous SAP authorisation on plant & apparatus up to 400kV - essential. Good numeracy, literacy and problem-solving skills - essential. Demonstrable competence in the use of IT/IS skills e.g. MS Office & MS Project - essential.
