Comprising 1,650 researchers spread across 14 Research Centres around the world, our Global R&D team aims to continuously improve the quality of steel and its manufacturing processes. This involves investigating and developing disruptive technologies, reducing the carbon footprint of steel, and optimizing costs while maintaining uncompromising quality. The team's strong multicultural diversity, with over 30 nationalities, offers international experience and makes it possible to meet global needs.
Maizières-les-Metz lab is the greatest ArcelorMittal's research centre. The team you will join works on the development of new ultrahigh strength hot rolled grades for innovative automotive applications, the low CO2 industrial manufacturing methods to produce them and the deployment in the worldwide market.
Your role
We are looking for a person who could apply his/her technical knowledge and experience and multidisciplinary project management skills on the development, industrialisation and deployment of new ultrahigh strength steel products for applications in the automotive industry.
In a context of exciting transitions in the steel and automotive industries towards CO2 neutrality, simplification, new mobility (electrical vehicles) and new forming technologies for autoparts, the need for new and innovative solutions becomes key.
Development of new solutions will start from the conception of combined steel grade, manufacturing and forming solutions in the laboratory towards industrialisation at steel plants and deployment at stampers and car makers worldwide.
Joining and leading projects for exploiting the relationship between metallurgy of ultrahigh strength microstructures and surface engineering and a wide range of in-use properties from crash to corrosion and embrittlement resistance among many others will be requested as they represent the building blocks for the conception of innovative solutions. Internal and external academic interaction will be encouraged.
To be successful in your different tasks, you will manage a number of research technicians and you will rely on the transversal approaches (safety, environment, quality).
