Job Purpose: To perform such duties as may be assigned by the Portering Services Officer/Deputy or such other person as may be designated by the Board.
Duties include:
- Report promptly for duty
- Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene, considering the special nature of the job
- Provide proper care and attention for all patients and staff.
- Collect and deliver Specimens when required
- Lifting, positioning, and walking of patients
- Escorting/transporting patients to other departments and hospitals as required
- Assist with removal of deceased patients to the Mortuary
- Collect and deliver messages throughout the hospital
- Move beds, lockers, and transfer beds from ward to ward as necessary
- Collect refuse, clinical waste, and other rubbish removal as per existing arrangements.
- Change and remove curtains as per existing arrangements
- Check and replace medical gas cylinders on a daily basis
- Report to immediate supervisor on any irregularities that might adversely affect the carrying out of assigned duties.
- Collect and deliver all bloods and blood products.
- Return all equipment (Chairs, Trolley, and Oxygen) to the correct department after use.
- Provide services on an overtime basis within reasonable limits as may be required
- Collect and deliver emergency Stores Supplies outside normal working hours
- Collect and deliver emergency Laboratory Supplies outside normal working hours
- Undertake to maintain a satisfactory standard of work
- Attend training programs that are arranged from time to time
- Comply with the Hospital dress code applicable to Portering Services
- Be familiar with and act in accordance with the health and safety standards of the Hospital
- Be familiar and comply with lifting and handling techniques
- Be familiar and comply with the Hospital Infection Control Policy
- Be familiar and comply with the Hospital fire policy, fire drill, and the Major Disaster plan
- Be familiar and comply with the Hospital policy on waste disposal
