The North West Regional Organised Crime Unit is a collaborative multi agency covert response to tackle serious and organised crime across the North West Region. The Prison Task Force (PTF) is an operational team established as part of the Regional Prison Intelligence Unit (RPIU). The PTF focuses on disrupting serious and organised crime connected to the Northwest prison estate which comprises 16 prison facilities across the whole of the North-West region. This includes targeting some of the most significant OCG nominals in the North-West, involved in facilitating serious and organised crime including the supply and importation of drugs and firearms, human trafficking and organised exploitation, fraud, and money laundering. The PTF uses overt and covert tactics and, working closely with the Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other agencies, develops collaborative strategies and joint operational activity. The NWROCU leads the policing response across the region posed by serious and organised crime in Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, and North Wales. The NWROCU provides the vital link from national capabilities and expertise to local policing and knowledge, enabling the North West region to deliver the Government’s Serious and Organised Crime strategy and to protect communities from harm. The post is subject to an initial 2 year secondment with extensions based on continued funding.
