These services are provided within an individual and group context. Responsibilities include intensive case management, medication management, crisis intervention, counselling, goal planning, consultation to community agencies, group/community education, student mentoring, documentation, client/family and public education, advocacy, and mental health promotion. Human Resources Exemption: No Experience 3 years experience in a community or acute mental health setting Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Other Education and Training Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS) Nursing diploma is acceptable Competencies Decision making skills Advanced - Demonstrates word processing skills using Microsoft Office programs Critical thinking skills Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge in mental health and addictions and concurrent medical conditions Knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act Ability to treat patients with compassion and empathy Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing/Assessment Knowledge in drugs of abuse and their effects Advanced knowledge of drug abuse and their effects during use and withdrawal Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team Knowledge in Mental Health nursing processes and appropriate interventions Knowledge in Provincial Addiction Clinical Model and DSM-4R Knowledge Transtheoretical Model of Change Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care Knowledge in harm reduction in Addictions Medicine Knowledge in methadone/methadone assisted recovery Demonstrated high degree of accuracy is required of assigned responsibility Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
