Network and Rail Operations has an open recruitment for Manager, Yard Operations, responsible for leading front-line resources supporting Operations function at maintenance yards and layover facilities for the organization. Yard Operations is a field-based position, providing real-time, on-the-ground support to maintain rail service continuity, safety, and operational resilience. This key position provides leadership and growth opportunities for a rostered team of regionalized Operations Managers, acting as a critical link between centralized control functions and front-line operations. What will I be doing? In a leadership capacity, the role of Manager, Yard Operations, will be accountable for several business objectives, such as operational efficiency and strategic alignment, field incident management, Facilities oversight, third-party contractor oversight, and service continuity. Engage with and establish strong working relationships with our internal and external partners including Network Operations, Customer Protective Services, Operating Practices, Asset Management & Maintenance, and third-party contractors. Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance yard and outpost fluidity to achieve OTD and Yard/Outpost performance KPI’s. Build safety compliance and improve safety results through regular safety observations; provide feedback (positive and constructive) to the Operating Contractor supervisors to act on non-compliant behavior. Attend any Front-Line Supervisor Development Programs to learn and understand internal systems, process, policies and procedures for solving issues and making decisions. Maintain teamwork and order amongst staff, contractors, and internal clients by acting with a sense of urgency and respond to issues as they may arise. Use operational data in MX systems to identify opportunities to improve asset utilization and service reliability, acting for own territory and making recommendations to MX. Keep track of the yard status, service commitments, inbound arrivals and ensure train connections and departures meet the service plan. Share best practices, information, operational concerns and company information to create transparency and clear understanding of company direction and expectations. Innate operational familiarity with the network, enabling an expedited and intuitive response to incidents. Proactively identifies emerging corridor issues (e.g. asset degradation, obstructions, damaged barriers, etc.) within maintenance yards and layover facilities, before they escalate into service-impacting failures. Assists the Control Centre with developing and executing service recovery strategies that prioritize minimizing customer delays and service gaps. Develops an in-depth understanding of the business processes, assets, facilities, responsibilities, regulatory requirements and interdependencies within Metrolinx. Monitor and manage team performance against Key Performance Indicators such as on-time arrival and departure performance (OTD) and customer satisfaction (CSAT). This position is accountable for leading a 24-hour/365-day operation, required to work across all shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays and may be required to work from various locations across the GTHA.
