What does a great Software Development Manager do?

You will come on board at a truly exciting time and play a pivotal role in overseeing and collaborating with teams and senior leaders that are building API’s and Products within our Customer Lifecycle Management portfolio. Your work will impact Travelport customers making their interactions with Travelport seamless and efficient. 

The ideal candidate is an accomplished Engineering Leader and is someone that will challenge the status quo, bring new ideas to how we manage people, process and technology and is looking to expand their scope of responsibilities and to take on a diverse set of leadership challenges to grow their career. As a highly skilled and passionate leader, technical acumen and a solid background in software development is a must - so that you can challenge and grow your team members. You will have the autonomy to influence culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your teams on strategy and execution. 

Furthermore, you will be responsible for establishing a collaborative work environment that fosters a high degree of craftsmanship and personal growth. You should be able to design, communicate, and implement reliable, scalable, and extensible software applications. An organized data-driven approach, a willingness to constantly experiment, and the desire to be involved in product decisions are a must. 

Responsibilities include:

• Working cross-functionally throughout the organization (Product, Engineering, Architecture, Support, Commercial, etc.) to deliver best-in-class products for Internal/external customers
• Supporting and guiding requirements/design/delivery activities for Travelport Products
• Building highly performant, autonomous, agile teams.
• Providing technical mentorship and coaching to the delivery teams and managing talent within your organisation
• Fostering a healthy collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values 
• Advocating and advancing modern, agile software development practices with quality at the core and helping develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices

Who we are looking for in this role:

• Software Engineering Management experience with a proven track record in building, leading and sustaining multiple high-performing cross-functional teams in a global matrixed business environment.
• This is a managerial role, and the candidate must have previous hands-on experience of the full SDLC and ideally of the following technologies so that they can understand, support and coach the teams as required:
  • Development and delivery of scalable enterprise applications and REST microservices on private/public cloud provider
  • Server-side development using Java and Spring and SQL & NoSQL Database technologies
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills 
• Excellent people leadership, team coaching, line management, talent and succession management skills
• A Lean/Agile/DevOps/Continuous Improvement mindset 
• Proven track record in influencing beyond your team, of building a network across the organisation to help your team be successful
• A strong and provaen customer focus, understanding of the trade-offs required to deliver great products and solutions to our customers in an effective way
