Role Overview

We are accelerating local journalism using a hybrid human-plus-AI model to cover over 140 communities across Canada. If you care about local issues and love leveraging AI to work smarter, not harder, this role is an excellent fit.

We are hiring a part-time journalist who can deliver high-quality reporting in fewer hours by using AI tools strategically. You’ll be responsible for sourcing stories, researching local issues, and publishing engaging community-focused content each week.

This role is ideal for someone who already uses AI daily and wants to apply those skills to a meaningful purpose.

What You’ll Do

• Write weekly stories that highlight important developments in Canadian communities

• Use AI tools for research assistance, workflow automation, and rapid content creation

• Conduct interviews and gather quotes as needed

• Stay on top of community discussions, municipal notices, and regional news

• Collaborate with the editorial team to maintain consistent output and coverage

• Experiment with advanced AI tools and share insights to improve our newsroom

What You Bring

• Journalism, writing, editorial or content creation experience (professional, academic, or freelance)

• Demonstrated passion for local news, civic engagement, and community storytelling

• Comfort using AI tools as part of your workflow — the more advanced, the better

• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight

• Strong writing, editing, and fact-checking skills

• Reliable weekly availability (20 hours)
