As of 1 January 2025, the internship allowance is EUR 700 and a transport subsidy of EUR 30 per month. An additional housing subsidy of EUR 170 per month will be provided to eligible interns.  

Interns are required to be subscribed to a health insurance coverage for the entire duration of the internship. However, they are eligible to request enrolment in the Organization’s health insurance coverage at no additional cost.

1          PRIMARY DUTIES

The Executive Director Legal Affairs (EDLA) provides substantive legal advice to INTERPOL’s General Secretariat and Governing Bodies on all legal aspects of INTERPOL’s mandate, operations and administration. It is responsible for all legal issues within the Organization of an institutional, regulatory or operational nature and for matters, which require the protection of the Organization’s legal interests. It also develops legal programmes with a view to enhancing international cooperation in criminal matters, with a specific focus on data protection issues.

Beginning in 2014, the Organization implemented a number of reforms.  As one of these new initiatives, the Notices and Diffusions Task Force (NDTF or Task Force) was created in 2016 to conduct quality and legal review of all notice requests and wanted persons diffusions for compliance with INTERPOL’s Constitution and rules.  The Task Force is:

• multi-disciplinary, with lawyers working alongside senior operational assistants, analysts, and police officers;
• multilingual, including native speakers of all official languages; and
• multinational, comprised of individuals of over a dozen different nationalities.

Throughout this internship the selected applicant will provide support to the Notices and Diffusions Sub-directorate and its activities by:

• Assisting in drafting legal reviews
• Doing research on legal topics
• Carrying out any other duty assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

All candidates will be assessed on the under mentioned requirements

• Be a national of one of the INTERPOL’s 196 member countries.

• Have attained the legal age of majority in the country of nationality

Training / Education required

• • Be enrolled in a, or have graduated from, a law Degree (L.LB., J.D, or an equivalent degree) within the past one year on the date of submission of their application.
  • Membership of a legal bar of one of INTERPOL’s member countries will be an asset.
  • Studies of international criminal law will be an asset.

Languages

• Professional fluency in English is required.
• Working knowledge of any other INTERPOL official working language (French, Arabic or Spanish) will be considered an asset.

Specific skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
• Discretion, diplomacy, tact and rigor
