This role is hybrid and requires presence at our downtown Toronto office (250 Yonge St) and/or client office (Markham) at least 3 days per week (subject to change).
We are seeking a collaborative and resourceful Senior Data Engineer for the IT Data Platform Engineering Delivery team. The ideal candidate is dedicated, naturally inquisitive, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment. This role is part of the Information Technology Enterprise Data Services Group and involves leading architecture, design, analysis, and implementation within an experienced team.
You will apply your expertise in both modern and legacy data platforms to develop ecosystems that meet business requirements and align with enterprise architecture standards. Design, build, and operationalize large-scale enterprise data solutions using Hadoop, Postgres, Oracle, and Snowflake.
Develop ETL pipelines to ingest data into Oracle/Hadoop/Postgres from diverse sources (files, mainframe, relational, NoSQL, Hadoop) using Informatica PowerCenter and BDM.
Create solution designs for data acquisition/ingestion, integration, and data warehouse/marts.
Collaborate with business partners, product owners, functional specialists, business analysts, IT architects, and developers to ensure solutions adhere to architecture standards.
Ensure compliance with enterprise data governance and design standards.
Act as a point of contact to resolve architectural, technical, and solution-related challenges.
Advocate for data catalogs, governance, and quality practices.
Work within an Agile delivery framework to evolve data models and deliver value incrementally.
Mentor and coach junior team members, leading by example.
Apply strong decision-making and critical thinking skills to challenge the status quo and improve delivery pace and performance.
University degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
8+ years of experience designing solutions for data lakes, integrations, and data warehouses/marts.
Expertise in Snowflake, Hadoop, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Informatica BDM & PowerCenter.
Strong coding skills in SQL and Java.
Knowledge of Guidewire Claim Center (GW CC) is an asset.
Experience implementing Data Governance principles.
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Insurance industry knowledge is an asset.
