We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated Start-Up / Commissioning HVAC/R Technician with extensive experience in commercial chiller systems. This role is responsible for the start-up, commissioning, diagnostics, and warranty support of newly installed HVAC/R equipment for large-scale commercial and industrial projects.
Ideal candidates will have a strong background in chiller service and controls, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and quality. This is a field-based role requiring flexibility to work nights, weekends, overtime, and occasional overnight stays, depending on project needs.
Job Responsibilities (List is not inclusive)
· Perform start-up and commissioning of new HVAC/R equipment, including chillers (centrifugal, screw, scroll), air handlers, cooling towers, pumps, and VAV systems on commercial and industrial facilities.
· Installing, maintaining, and repairing heating ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.
· Log all startup information and service work orders into company provided iPad.
· Meet equipment startup deadlines and inform Service Manager of any issues.
· Maintain inventory and cleanliness of company provided vehicle.
· Cleaning adjusting and maintaining HVAC systems.
· Provide technical direction and on the job training to customers.
· Must be able to work after hours, weekends with short notice.
· Must demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of air duct distribution systems, commercial and industrial.
· Know relevant building codes, current legislation, regulations, policies and procedures for the installation and maintenance of systems.
· Ensure compliance with company and General contractor safety policies, OSHA regulations, and jobsite requirements.
· Represent the company professionally while working with customers and other trades on active construction sites.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with commercial chiller systems (e.g., Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, etc.).
· EPA Universal Certification required.
· Strong understanding of HVAC/R systems, control sequences, and commissioning best practices.
· Proficient in reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
· Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in the field.
· Strong communication and documentation skills.
· Willingness and availability to work nights, weekends, overtime, and some overnight travel as required by project schedules.
· Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Education and Experience
· High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
· OSHA 10 required. OSHA 30 Certification preferred.
· Experience with BAS/BMS systems and control startup
