The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Group Insurance Manager, Life and Disability is responsible for leading and supporting the Life and Disability Claims team, while overseeing day‑to‑day operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring claims are handled fairly, consistently, and in compliance with established standards, while delivering a strong client experience.
The position requires sound judgment, strong leadership, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners to support organizational objectives and best practices.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and prioritize team activities, including workload planning, short‑ and mid‑term priorities, service standards, client experience, compliance, performance indicators, corrective actions, procedures, and processes
- Lead, supervise, and coach employees, including performance evaluations, individual goal‑setting, training, ongoing development, and succession planning
- Review and resolve complex, challenging, or unusual claims files by identifying appropriate solutions and taking the necessary actions
- Collaborate closely with other Group Insurance managers and leaders to promote consistent best practices and achieve optimal business results
- Develop and manage the team budget, including monthly variance analysis and required adjustments
- Participate in and coordinate various projects and committees
- Conduct meetings and deliver presentations to external partners (administrators, brokers, clients, etc.)
- Perform any other related duties as assigned
What you'll need
Qualifications
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in similar roles within Group Insurance (Life and Disability), including at least five (5) years in a management position, with experience managing remote employees
- Proven experience in team leadership, coaching, employee engagement, and talent development
- University degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both French and English
- Strong knowledge of Life and Disability claims within Group Insurance
- Excellent analytical, judgment, and decision‑making skills, particularly when handling complex cases
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to thrive in a demanding operational environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Experience interpreting insurance contracts and applicable legislation related to Life and Disability insurance
