Expression of Interest for Area 14 Maintenance & Response (M&R) contract

You are invited to register your interest in getting involved in the Area 14 Maintenance & Response (M&R) contract.

Costain and Jacobs joint venture known as CHC have the Area 14 M&R contract until July 2028 with National Highways.

CHC provide the provision of maintenance and response services in relation to the Strategic Road Network in Area 14 which includes the motorways and trunk roads in Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham, and North Yorkshire.

Responsibilities

The area is set to expand with the addition of new road sections: the A69 trunk road in 2026, followed by the A19 along with other associated trunk roads in 2027.

CHC are responsible for:

• Maintenance: Performs routine and reactive maintenance, including cyclical and defect rectification.
• Response: Provides severe weather and incident response.
• Technology: Maintains roadside technology.
• Traffic Management: Provides traffic management for its own activities and for others working on the network.
