We are looking to recruit an Environmental Engineer to equip and support the UK’s Armed Forces with cutting-edge capabilities. As an Environmental Engineer, you’ll ensure these capabilities are designed, delivered, supported, and ultimately disposed of in ways that protect the environment, drive sustainability, and meet stringent legislative and standards. You’ll join a dedicated Engineering Skill Group—supported by a People Coach focused entirely on your development—collaborating with specialists across multiple disciplines. Your work directly influences real-world environmental outcomes on some of the UK’s most complex engineering programmes. What you’ll be doing Provide expert environmental advice across sustainability, protection, performance, and compliance. Produce, review, and recommend acceptance of environmental documentation and artefacts. Lead on compliance with UK legislation, Identify environmental impacts and lead the evaluation of risk reduction measures. Manage environmental acceptance criteria across testing, verification, and validation. Participate in and lead assurance, audit, and review activities. Guide projects through POEMS-aligned environmental design and compliance frameworks. Ensure environmental requirements are captured, managed, and delivered through suppliers. Manage environmental considerations in equipment disposal and decommissioning. Develop and manage Environmental Management Systems across a matrixed organisation. Provide robust recommendations through Project Environmental Panels. Collaborate with system integrators, regulators, delivery teams, industry partners, and internal stakeholders. Contribute to the development and maintenance of DE&S environmental standards and policies. Shape processes supporting exemptions, disapplications, and derogations where required. Promote innovation and continuous improvement across environmental engineering practices. Mentor and support early-career professionals and junior engineers. Engage regularly with contractors and industry partners. May hold budget responsibility and support the review and approval of business cases. About you – Essential Requirements Qualifications & Professional Registration STEM qualification at RQF Level 4 (or SCQF/international equivalent). Professional registration as Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP), RSci, or IEng. Broad technical experience delivering environmental engineering outcomes. Ability to provide authoritative environmental advice and lead delivery of environmental solutions in acquisition or in-service support. Strong understanding of environmental legislation, standards, and policy application. Effective decision-making, data analysis, and risk management. Able to resolve stakeholder conflicts and communicate complex information clearly. Skilled in prioritisation, time management, and coaching others.
