SUMMARY
The Crew Lead – Handyperson is responsible for overseeing and performing a wide range of facility maintenance activities, including general repairs, building upkeep, basic mechanical tasks, and other supporting systems. This role ensures that daily operations run smoothly through structured inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance, and both routine and on-demand service delivery.
The Crew Lead is also accountable for ensuring work is performed according to established processes and practices while complying with internal and external requirements related to environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
This position works in collaboration with all key BGIS departments to support our INTEGRATED approach to facility operations and to ensure seamless service delivery across sites.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety Ownership and Regulatory Compliance
- Comply with all environmental, health and safety, and fire protection requirements
- Ensure team adherence to BGIS Health & Safety standards and all legislated regulations.
- Promote a safety‑first culture among crew members and verify proper use of PPE.
Technical Leader and Oversight:
- Lead and support a team of Handypersons/Technicians in completing daily tasks and maintenance activities.
- Oversee and perform general building maintenance including basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical tasks (within scope), painting, and repairs.
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, ensure quality of work, and provide on‑the‑spot coaching.
- Maintain tools and arrange repairs or replacements when required.
- Ensure seamless facility operations and timely resolution of maintenance needs
Inspection Management:
- Conduct regular building walkthroughs to identify issues related to structural integrity, safety, and equipment condition.
- Document inspection findings, prioritize necessary repairs, and coordinate timely completion.
- Maintain an organized inspection checklist and ensure logs are updated accurately.
Occupant Experience:
- Enhance tenant satisfaction through timely, high‑quality repairs and clear communication.
- Coordinate maintenance work to minimize disruption to occupants.
- Collaborate with facility managers to ensure a positive and reliable service experience.
Proactive Communication and Escalation:
- Must be able and willing to work shifts and remain available for on‑call or emergency situations.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, vendors, and tenants about work progress.
- Escalate urgent issues promptly to protect operations and minimize downtime.
Work Order Management:
- Oversee the full work order lifecycle in partnership with the Central Work Order Management Team.
- Prioritize and assign work orders to the team based on urgency, impact, and skill set.
- Ensure work orders are completed to quality standards, within SLA requirements, and properly documented in the CMMS.
- Support the implementation of preventative maintenance programs and ensure deficiencies are recorded and escalated when needed.
Financial Ownership (Including Quotes Management):
- Submit expenditures in a timely manner.
- In partnership with the Maintenance Lead, FM, and Regional Director, help manage the maintenance budget.
- Obtain and evaluate quotes for maintenance, supplies, and repairs ensuring cost‑effectiveness.
Vendor Management:
- Oversee third‑party vendors and contractors performing maintenance work.
- Ensure high‑quality workmanship and adherence to safety and operational standards.
- Coordinate vendor access and verify completion of contracted work.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- High school diploma required; additional trades training, certification, or licensing an asset.
- Experience in general building maintenance (carpentry, plumbing, basic electrical, drywall, painting, etc.).
- Strong understanding of facility operations and maintenance practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs across various building systems.
- Strong client‑service orientation and high sense of urgency.
- Effective communication skills for guiding team members, relaying information, and providing feedback.
- Leadership and mentoring skills to support the development of crew members.
- Must be able and willing to work shifts, participate in on‑call rotation, and respond to emergency call‑outs.
- Strict adherence to all Health & Safety policies and PPE requirements.
This is a regular, full-time position with a salary range of $30,48 - $40,00 hourly. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to experience, education and performance related to this role.
