A bit about the role As a Community Short Breaks Practitioner, you will be instrumental in providing specialised support and services for children with disabilities aged 5 to 18 years. Your role will involve delivering tailored programmes and activities that promote inclusion, personal development and well-being for these children. Your work directly with children, facilitating group sessions and one to one support that focuses on building social skills, enhancing communications, and fostering independence. A key responsibility will be leading a weekly evening term time youth group in Redruth, where you will create a supportive and engaging environment for participants. Additionally, flexibility during school holidays will be essential to meet the needs of the service and deliver community short breaks. Collaboration with families and local organisations will be crucial as you create opportunities that empower children with disabilities, ensuring they have the tools they need to thrive in their communities. About the service Action for Children Cornwall SPACE is a Cornwall Council funded service providing Holiday Activities for disabled children and young people aged between 5 – 18 years. We offer disabled children and young people exciting new activities to try, providing families with an all-important short break. You’ll also be part of a youth groups for young people aged 13 up to their 25th birthday. Groups run during term time in Redruth (Mondays) and Liskeard (Wednesdays). How you'll help to create a brighter future Working in a team to deliver exciting and high-quality youth work for our service users. Working collaboratively with young people to understand their needs and creating a fun and exciting person-centred program. Planning and delivering activities and encouraging active participation amongst service users Conducting assessments and referrals to service and updating relevant paperwork, Working within a small team and help create fun and engaging activities within the school holidays Let's talk about you: Relevant NVQ level 3 or previous experience working with children and young people with disabilities (qualifications can be attained while in the role) Experience of working with young people and a youth work curriculum Sound knowledge and understanding of safeguarding practices. Creative, positive and proactive approach towards work.
