Position #: 9003040 Expected Start Date: May 13, 2025 Union: HSAS Facility: Royal University Hospital City/Town: Saskatoon Department: Child Life Type: Part-time regular FTE: 0.4 Shift Information: Days, Evenings Hours of Work: Per 6 weeks: 6 shifts of 8 hours 6 shifts of 7 hours Relief: No Float: No Field Hours: No Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band Child Life Therapist - Degree $34.181 to $41.805 Travel Required: No Job Description: The Child Life Therapist strives to reduce the impact of stressful or traumatic life events and situations which affect the development, health and well-being of infants, children, youth and families. The incumbent assesses, develops and implements evidence-based, developmentally and psychologically appropriate programming and interventions to prepare clients and families for any diagnostic or treatment procedures. As a member of multidisciplinary pediatric teams, the incumbent shall advocate for and represent Child Life on committees, interdisciplinary rounds, conferences, hospital and community initiatives where there is concern for the psychosocial, emotional and developmental needs of children, youth and families. Child Life Therapist functions as a member of the Child Life Program Department and as a member of an assigned health care team, in accordance with the professional standards of practice of the Association of Child Life Professionals and the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Human Resources Exemption: No Education Bachelor's degree from an ACLP endorsed program Other Education and Training Bachelor's degree with a focus on Child Psychology is acceptable Bachelor's degree with a focus on Child and Family studies is acceptable Bachelor's degree with a focus on pediatric development is acceptable Bachelor's degree with a focus on Child & Youth is acceptable Obtain child life certification w/in 1yr of employment as a Child Life Therapist Competencies Basic - Organizational skills Basic - Written Communication Skills Basic - Verbal communication skills Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge and understanding of Client and Family Centred Care practices Ability to operate related equipment & carry out the duties of the position Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team Knowledge of the ACLP Child Life Competencies Knowledge of ethical principles of pediatric healthcare & child life profession Ability to communicate child life practice &psychosocial issues of C&Y &families Ability to communicate child life practice &psychosocial issues of infants Ability to assess patients & families applying theories of human growth & dvlmpt Ability to provide psychosocial preparation for procedures&medical interventions Ability to work as a member of a team Knowledge of the ACLP Code of Professional Practice Knowledge of the role of community supports for the child/adolescent and family Ability to use professional judgement to plan appropriate interventions Other Information Preference to HSAS members as per the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement Registered/eligible for registration as Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) Registered/eligible registration w/Association Child Life Professionals (ACLP) For more information on the city of Saskatoon please visit https://www.saskatoon.ca/ Previous experience as a Child Life Therapist would be considered an asset
