All about the role: An opportunity has arisen to join Chippenham Town Council’s CCTV team, sharing responsibility for the CCTV system with our current CCTV Supervisor. This is a part-time role of 20 hours per week, which may occasionally include evenings and weekends, so would suit someone who is looking for a flexible working arrangement with a mix of onsite and remote working. The role involves supervising the CCTV volunteers, downloading footage and keeping relevant legal documents up to date. The CCTV service makes a big difference to the community by helping promote a safer environment in the town. Special Conditions of the Post: Attend court as a witness for the police or other persons in bringing about a prosecution. The post holder has personal responsibility for their own safety, as well as that of other members of staff, and the general public, in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. Ensure that the confidentiality of volunteers, the control room procedures and recordings are respected. Assist and supervise the volunteer CCTV operators in their duties, and by reference to logbooks and other means, ensure that these are carried out in an effective manner. Comply with the Council’s rules and procedures for all financial activities which are set out in the Council’s Standing Orders and Financial Regulations. Play an active role in identifying, managing and controlling risks relating to the CCTV activities of the Town Council. Based at the rear of Chippenham Museum in the CCTV Control Room. Occasionally working alone in the building. To undertake any other duties required by the management of the Town Council which are applicable to the grading and nature of the post and which do not change the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed. Primary Relationships: Line managed by the Head of Community Development. CCTV Volunteers. Employees of Chippenham Town Council. Stakeholders, external organisations, and members of the public as required. Person Specification Essential Experience and Knowledge: Experience in a supervisory role Understanding of legislation relevant to CCTV i.e., RIPA, GDPR, FOI Knowledge and understanding of local community safety related issues Have or be willing to train for a SIA CCTV Operator Licence Desirable Experience and Knowledge: Experience working with CCTV surveillance footage Experience recruiting and training volunteers Public sector or local government experience Experience using Police Airwave and Storenet Radio Systems Familiarity with phonetic alphabet Essential Skills and Attributes: Excellent observation Able to work flexibly including weekends, evenings and public holidays IT Literate Effective organisation, delegation and monitoring of workloads Understands the importance of confidentiality High level of attention to detail Able to well in a team or alone using own initiative Able to deal with a range of people in a professional and courteous manner Willing to undertake additional training as required Equal Opportunities Chippenham Town Council aims to be an Equal Opportunities Employer and has equal opportunities policies with which you are expected to comply at all times.
