This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Biosecurity Research Resident - AI x Bio Evaluations in the United States.

As a Biosecurity Research Resident, you will lead interdisciplinary efforts to assess and mitigate high-consequence risks at the intersection of AI and biology. You will guide research projects that inform policy decisions, develop threat models, and evaluate AI-driven biological tools and systems. The role involves managing a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating across technical and policy domains, and translating complex research into actionable insights for stakeholders. You will have the opportunity to influence strategic priorities, apply rigorous analytical methods, and contribute to the safe and responsible deployment of frontier AI technologies. This position offers a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environment where your work will directly support evidence-based decision-making in biosecurity and national security contexts.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead and manage an interdisciplinary research team of 5+ members, overseeing a portfolio with significant funding.
  • Develop operationalizable threat models for high-consequence risks at the AI-biology interface.
  • Design and execute rigorous evaluations of AI capabilities relevant to biosecurity.
  • Set and implement strategic research priorities, focusing on policy impact.
  • Oversee the application of quantitative and qualitative research methods to support decision-making.
  • Communicate findings to policymakers and stakeholders through written reports and presentations.
  • Mentor team members, manage project budgets, and ensure timely delivery of objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance research scope and impact.

Requirements

  • PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Virology, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Biosecurity, Biostatistics, AI, Computer Science, Policy Analysis, or related field with relevant professional experience.
  • Domain expertise in biology with strong interest and proficiency in AI capability evaluations and risk assessments.
  • Experience leading complex research projects or teams, including cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to design and execute rigorous research methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to translate technical results into policy-relevant insights.
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with remote team members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with biosecurity policy, regulatory frameworks, and government decision-making processes.
  • Experience with AI-enabled biological tools, biodesign, biodefense, or working with leading AI organizations.
  • Prior involvement in high-intensity, fast-paced research environments.
  • U.S. government security clearance eligibility is a plus.
