ANIMAL CARE ATTENDANT LEVEL 1 FULL-TIME PERMANENT ABOUT US The Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) has been an animal welfare leader in the Edmonton community since 1907. We strive to be a model of excellence in the advancement of animal welfare and to lead the movement in creating a more humane world. EHS is a safe haven for thousands of homeless animals each year, providing veterinary treatment, behavioral rehabilitation, care, enrichment and rehoming. Beyond animal sheltering, we engage with the community through various programs and services to support happy, lifelong bonds between people and pets. THE ROLE The Animal Care Attendant Level One is responsible for providing daily care and feeding of cats, small animals, and kittens. This role ensures a high level of care and humane treatment of animals while adhering to shelter policies and procedures. KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Animal Care/Enrichment * Daily feeding of cats, kittens, and small animals * Daily cleaning of animal wards for cats, kittens, and small animals * Assisting with cat placements and transfers * Communicating with volunteers and other departments to address animal care needs in a professional and respectful manner * Socializing with cats in regular wards for enrichment purposes Shelter Support * Assist with laundry tasks, including washing and drying as required * Help with washing dishes as needed * Cleaning and organizing the animal kitchen, rescue shed, storage area, wash bay, and grooming room Administrative * Entering care requests for animals as required * Completing feeding and cleaning record sheets for each animal * Other duties as assigned EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS * High School Diploma or equivalent SKILLS & ABILITIES As the ideal candidate, you are passionate about people, performance, and diversity, particularly within the context of animal welfare. You possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and can work effectively both independently and in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, you are comfortable handling animals of all species and temperaments. COMPENSATION & HOURS * Compensation: EHS offers a competitive not-for-profit compensation package which includes a comprehensive benefits package, and a strong work-life balance. * Hours: 40 hours a week; however, is expected to work hours as required to fulfill department responsibilities. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
