There is currently 1 permanent whole-time vacancy available in Kilkenny Mental Health Services.
A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner (c ANP) Adult Mental Health Services – Eating Disorder from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.
Purpose of the Post
The main purpose of the Candidate ANP post is for the individual to build upon the current job description and supporting documentation for the RANP post, such that it meets the requirements and standards for such posts as identified by the NMBI, for submission by the organisation to the NMBI so that post accreditation is achieved.
In addition, the individual will develop the clinical skills, leadership skills, competencies and knowledge required in order to meet the criteria to be registered as an ANP with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). This will entail undertaking a substantial clinical modular component at level 9 as part of the educational preparation for the role of RANP. The scope of the c ANP role must reflect the incremental development of expertise and as such the c ANP cannot deliver care as an autonomous practitioner.
Furthermore, the c ANP will develop and submit their personal portfolio and all other necessary documentation to the NMBI in order to register as an ANP within a specified time frame.
The value of the nursing contribution as a distinct profession must be safeguarded and articulated in the development of new services led by advanced nurse practitioners, complementing rather than replacing current services delivered by doctors (NMBI, 2017).
The overall purpose of the RANP post is to provide safe, timely, evidenced based nurse-led care to service users at an advanced nursing level. This involves undertaking and documenting a complete episode of service user care (assess, diagnose, plan, treat and discharge service users) according to collaboratively agreed protocols and scope of practice in the clinical setting; demonstrating advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge, critical thinking and decision making skills.
The advanced practice role demonstrates a high degree of knowledge, skill and experience that is applied within the nurse-service user relationship to achieve optimal outcomes through critical analysis, problem solving and accurate decision- making (NMBI, 2017).
To support a safe environment for service users by increasing the use of evidence based clinical guidelines, address service user expectations and promote wellness and evaluate care given.
To provide professional and clinical leadership in order to develop nursing/midwifery practice and health policy at local, regional and national level.
To lead, conduct, disseminate and publish nursing/midwifery research to shape and advance nursing/midwifery practice, education and health care policy at local, national and international levels.
